A quick week’s jogging

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

Having just ran my last few miles of ’08, through the fluffily-falling Central Park snow, I’ve estimated that I completed approximately 840 miles total for the year on the bird leggages (not including warm ups and downs). Land’s End in Cornwall to John O’Groats in Scotland is about that distance by road. Works out at about 16 miles per week or 2.3 per day. That’s a decent chunk for a rookie running year, I reckon, particularly given the 8 weeks enforced nowtness with calf knack in the summer. My snazzy gps gizmoid data tell me that those 840 miles probably took me a total of a little under 140 hours or so (almost dead on a mean pace of 10 mins. per mile). Or just under six 24-hour days.  I.e., I ran for a week in 2008.

On the wheels, I probably biked somwhere around 3200 in total in 2008 – 62 miles per week or 8 or 9 miles per day average.  Most of that on the bikeways, bridges, and cross streets of NYaark, natch.

So, total cycle and running mileage for the year is equivalent to about New York to San Fransisco plus a little change; or about New York to Cornwall, if one could jog over the Atlantic.
